Sunrise Senior’s Silver Lining
By Ian L. Cooper
Sure, we’re down a few points from our US$40 entry price on Sunrise Senior Living, but we’re still bullish. Considering the company just reported that its Q1 profit shot up on higher revenue from management services, balancing a decrease in property sales income, there is no reason to sell at this time. While the net profit of US$13.9 million or 60 cents per share shot up from last year’s US$13.4 million or 56 cents per share, it was the revenue, which grew to US$367.1 million from US$136.7 million in one year, that drew the most attention.
Better still, the company has reaffirmed its previous 2004 EPS outlook of US$1.55 to US$1.65 per share, which excludes income from property sales. Sunrise expects to see close to US$25 million or 63 cents per share from property sales completed in 2003. Q2 earnings of 31 to 34 cents, excluding property sales, are expected. Close to US$9 million or 23 cents per share is expected from property sales in Q2.
For now continue holding. We’ll keep you up to date.
