Opportunity
By Ian L.
Cooper
With the
market on the brink of insanity, the economy on the
way out the door, and the government trying to figure
out which way is up, we have uncovered another sweet
momentum play. The best part: unlike the economy, the
market, and the government, this company has plenty
of growth potential looking forward.
And it trades
at only 44 cents. Thats a steal. This company
is going after a prepaid calling card market expected
to grow at an 11% pace to US$5.2 billion by the time
2003 rolls around. It just got approval from the FCC
and is looking to sign up more than 30 businesses to
sell its disposable cell phones across the country.
Remember
when disposable cameras were first introduced? People
laughed, jeered, said the idea would never work. Today,
no ones laughing any more not at an industry
that shocked investors with mind-boggling growth and
deep, billion-dollar-filled pockets.
Hop-On
(HPON:OTCBB)
Hop-On.com,
through its wholly owned subsidiary, Hop-On Wireless,
develops and markets the worlds first disposable,
fully recyclable and contract-free CDMA (Code Division
Multiple Access) cell phones that operate in the 800
MHz band.
Based in
California, the company will soon be selling its products
at some of the nations biggest retailers, gas
stations, and convenience stores, and will provide users
with national coverage through the nations biggest
carriers.
Unlike traditional
cell phones, Hop-On users are not subject to contracts
and do not incur long-distance charges, activation fees,
or roaming fees. The phones are plastic, two-way units
no bigger than a deck of cards.
The company
just won U.S. regulatory approval for the introduction
of its "no-frills" phone for prepaid mobile
calling. The company will sell its stripped-down mobile
phone and 60 minutes of initial service for a flat fee
of US$40. Thats a steal. Consumers can buy 60,
90, and 120 minute cards once the 60 minutes have run
out, instead of forking over US$50 to US$100 a month
for cell phone service.
Catalysts
for growth
Hop-On is
in talks with more than 30 major retailers and other
companies to distribute the phones. Consumer brands,
including beer companies, are looking at licensing Hop-On
phones to sell them as promotional items.
Its
a simple plan. Buy the phone, buy the minutes, and dont
worry about contractual agreements that nail you in
the end. What will sell this product is the fact that
consumers can pick up the phones for emergencies, for
fun, or just because they refuse to be hassled by contracts
or monthly bills.
The phone
even offers a US$5 rebate to customers who want to toss
the phones. The company hopes to recycle the used devices
to new customers to save on additional manufacturing
costs. Its a lot like those disposable cameras,
which get recycled four to five times in different packages.
Hop-On
(HPON:OTCBB) is a strong buy under US$2. Enjoy the ride.
