Get Ready to Fight the Tax
that Could Cause the First Depression of the Next Millennium

by Charles Wolpoff, Editor
Tax-Wise Money

There's an old piece of advice that goes something like: "Don't match wits with an unarmed man."

I'm concerned that most U.S. taxpayers are entering the 21st century unarmed. And, unfortunately, greedy lawmakers and hungry tax collectors won't hesitate to "match wits" with you if they sense easy pickings.

You see, taxpayers have become complacent, apathetic, and downright ignorant about their taxes.

Ignorant about the amount of taxes they pay, the wide diversity of wealth-grabbing techniques the government has perfected, and the ongoing campaign by elected officials and unelected bureaucrats to take away more of your wealth every year in ways that will escape your detection.

Yet, there's an impression across the land that taxes are going down. We hear about surpluses, low unemployment, and a surging economy--and assume, because it's rational assumption, that in such an environment our taxes will naturally shrink. But the clear trend is just the reverse. Your taxes are going up. And will continue to go up.

Feeding the hunger
They will also become more complex, be imposed by a wider variety of government authorities, and become harder to fight.

As we look into our crystal ball, one proposed tax in particular looms like Yeats' beast, slouching toward Bethlehem--waiting to destroy the economy and your wealth.

Protecting your wealth is going to be a tough challenge in the coming years. But it will be impossible if you don't arm yourself with the truth about what's in store for your money.

To this end, here are 10 predictions about taxes as we enter the new millennium.
