Out with the old and in with the new
Many Americans have been recycling their used cans, bottles, and papers for quite some time now. However, a company in Cambridge, Massachusetts would like to add one more item to that list of recyclables.
Recycline, Inc.'s new toothbrush, the Preserve, has a handle made of 100% recycled polypropylene plastic. Recycline did stress that even though they are committed to using recycled materials, the nylon bristles are not made from recycled material.
According to Recycline, if Americans replace their toothbrushes twice a year, that accounts for over 50 million pounds of plastic waste each year; therefore, combining recycling with oral hygiene makes sense. The preserve toothbrushes come with a postage-paid envelope which you can use to send back your used toothbrush. The toothbrush is then recycled into plastic lumber products.

Radioactive Potato?
The potatoes aren't radioactive, but they do glow when genetically modified with jellyfish genes. The genes are activated by the potato's production of abscisic acid, which the plant uses when it prepares itself for a shortage of water.
This way whenever the potato glows, farmers will know that the plants need water. The team of researchers at the University of Edinburgh hopes that this will prevent overwatering of plants during times when the world water supply is being heavily used.
The human eye will not be able to detect the glow. Instead a small detector, built by the Scottish Agricultural College, spots the yellow light from the potato and sets off a signal telling the farmer to water the potatoes.
Can't get enough of the market?
We previously told you about online brokers such as Datek and E*Trade offering after-hours trading, but Datek is taking it another step further. Datek has begun offering before-hours trading.
Datek's clients can now start placing limit orders for NASDAQ stocks at 8 a.m. ET, 90 minutes before the market opens. Datek Online Holdings, Inc. is the first online broker to offer this service.
The before-hours orders will go through the Island ECN, the same system used for Datek's after-hours orders.
