China is sure to remain high. That means prices will
be stable for the foreseeable future. The icing on the cake is that the company pays an annual dividend of 1.77%. Sinopec Beijing Yanhua Petrochemical Company
Limited (BYH:NYSE) is a buy under US$20.00. Sure, the presidential election
of 2004 is still weeks away. Big
deal. Halloween isnt even here yet
and people are getting excited
about Christmas. But, as usual, its
the anticipation of what could
come thats exciting. Same thing
with profiting from the stock mar-
ketyou buy on speculation of
what could be. While its still too early to tell
with any certainty who will walk away with a win,
speculators are already lining up the stocks that
could benefit from either partys victory. Defense
technology and big pharmaceuticals are likely to do
well under the Bush Administration, while anything
associated with stem cell research and even nan-
otechnology could run on a Kerry victory. Were simply betting on speculation that Kerry
could pull out a win. Thats not to say were for or
against himthis is a financial advisory, not a polit-
ical one. Youre here to make money, not listen to
us rant and rave about politics. Were just choosing
the stocks below because (1) theyre cheap and (2)
they could stand to triple, even quadruple your
money after the election. The great stem cell debate Congress has voted and pushed for the limita- tions to be eased. Many Americans are for stem cell
research. And studies show it has promise. Kerry
has said he would reverse the Bush
Administrations restrictions on stem cell research.
Were confident that stem cell plays could benefit in
case of a Democratic win. These include Aastrom
Biosciences (ASTM:NASDAQ) and StemCells
(STEM:NASDAQ). For a while now, stem cells have taken center
stage in the court of controversy. But while people
argue about it, Mayo Clinic researchers have shown
that stem cell therapy repairs damaged heart tis-
sue and aids recovery in rats after heart attack. While most therapies for heart attack victims only ensure that heart damage does not progress
or recur, once the embryonic cells were injected
into the heart muscle of a rat, they actually turned
into heart cells that integrated with the surround-
ing muscle and reduced the scarring normally asso-
ciated with heart attacks. Thats big news.
Unfortunately, people like Laura Bush claim that
the promise of embryonic stem cell research is
overblown, saying that the presidents restric-
tions are warranted because of moral and ethical
implications. The opposition focuses on the use of
embryonic stem cells, or master cells, that are cre-
ated during the early days after conception. Stem cell supporters hope to grow replacement
tissue from the cells to battle diabetes, spinal cord
injuries, Parkinsons and Alzheimers disease. States
like California are already pushing Proposition 71,
which would allow for the use of state bonds to
fund research. Its this promise that could lead the following
stocks higher. StemCells (STEM:NASDAQ) just announced that
it has received a patent covering human neural
stem cell cultures taken from any source, including
embryonic, fetal, neonatal, and adult tissue. By next
year, the company plans to begin testing the poten-
tial of neural stem cells to treat many diseases,
including Batten disease, a rare and fatal neuro-
degenerative disorder that affects the central nerv-
ous system. STEMs research is primarily focused on the
development of therapies that would use stem cells
to treat and hopefully cure diseases and injuries
including neuro-degenerative diseases like Battens,
Parkinsons and Alzheimers, disorders like multiple
sclerosis, spinal cord injuries, stroke, hepatitis, liver
failure and diabetes. They use cells taken from fetal
or adult tissue and are not developing embryonic
stem cells for therapeutic use. Continued media and political coverage is likely
to take STEM shares higher. Buy STEM under
