Seventeen years ago,
I joined Taipan’s founding
editor Bob Czeschin as an
intern at the Taipan research department. The two of us
occupied a small, highly
combustible office in the
back of Agora Inc.’s head-
quarters, then located at the
very edge of downtown
respectability. (On and off,
one would find bullet cas-
ings on the sidewalk, and it
was strongly discouraged to
stay long after dusk.)
      From here, we would
collect our information from
the neural network of global
stringers and freelancers we
were building. Our fastest
computer was an IBM 295,
and, from start to finish, it
took about fifteen minutes to
create a graph featuring
high, low, and closing prices
and trading volume for any
given stock or index.
How things have
changed!
Not satisfied that our investment advice usually
turned out to be highly prof-
itable, we began to ask why
exactly that was… uncover-
ing different and downright
anarchic layers of technical
and value analysis that cul-
minated in the definition of
what we call “unique con-
stellations of catalysts.”
These in turn gave rise to a
half-dozen high-powered
trading systems within the
framework of our Dynamic
Market Theory. This winter, our first “serious” financial
book on these trading sys-
tems will be published under
Wiley’s Professional/Trade
Group imprint. The Taipan
Group now employs over 30 full-time editors, analysts,
and support staff occupying
most of our building at 808

Not at Taipan!
       “Wall Street people learn
nothing and forget every-
thing,” writes investment
guru Benjamin Graham.
       As the world of finance
and investing continues to
evolve rapidly, those who
choose to relax and ignore it
do so at their peril, as count-
less opportunities and profits
will be lost.
That’s why, in this issue, you’ll notice a few
changes, new additions and improvements—all
designed to bring you a more practical, useful and
easily digestible format.
Don’t worry… you’ll still get the same pr ofitable
batch of investment recommendations each
month, naturally centered on Taipan’srelentlessly
pragmatic, global approach to investing. And our
core belief remains: That the markets are dynamic
and you can make money whether they’re trading
up, down, or sideways.
But as you’ll see from the sections, the trends
and opportunities that we identify both in the US
and abroad will be easier for you to follow each
month.
In addition, our new “Automatic Wealth” sec-
tion gives you some of the best places to invest
your money to get it working for you. Details on
page 10 and 11.
You’ll also find a new, permanent fixture in Taipan—our “core portfolio.” Split into sections, it’s designed to serve as a snapshot and reference
point for our core recommendations. Details on
page 11 and 12. Enjoy this month’s issue.
